Surfing Secrets Come In New Format

That scourge of localism and all things secret - Mark Warren's Atlas of Australian Surfing - is back on the shelves in a new format.

The hardcover book now has a baby brother - namely a ``traveller's edition" which is a newly (protective) jacketed, condensed edition that can be flung in the glovebox/backpack/boardbag for those surfaris up and down the coast.

This 272-page infoguide details - clockwise - all the major breaks from Fraser Island on the mid-east coast to Vlamingh Head on the mid-west coast - with maps and plenty of pics - while it does a whole lap of Tassie.

The Illawarra arena - or Coal Coast as the contents says (good for crowd control) - only gets a fly-by mention. And whoever put the info together - on a north heading south basis - still thinks Wollongong is south of Port Kembla.

The South Coast gets fully exposed which will not please folk in those parts.

A great book for the wanderer but it does eliminate the thrill of the hunt.
